Midnight Sun is University of Waterloo’s solar car student design team – they’ve been designing innovative solar vehicles from scratch since 1988 to demonstrate the potential of renewable energy for a cleaner future for all of us.

Fun fact: Our seventh car, MS-VII, captured Guinness World Records for “Longest Journey By A Solar Powered Car”. 

We’re currently building our fourteenth car, MS-XIV, to race in the 2021 American Solar Car challenge – a cross country,  endurance race for a total length of 35,000 km.

Crazy huh?

Our team is made up of students from all majors including engineering, designers, science and business students.

COVID-19 may have hit, but this past summer term, we’ve been focusing on designing, our 150 member strong team could not make me more inspired to work close to technology.
